  Li­ke all build­ings in warm and hot cli­ma­tes, Pass­ive Hou­ses will of­ten need act­ive cool­ing to achie­ve com­fort­ab­le in­door con­di­ti­ons (ad­apt­ive com­fort is not pur­su­ed). The gen­er­al prin­cip­les such as sol­ar con­trol, min­im­ised in­tern­al he­at gains, night-ti­me vent­il­a­ti­on, air­tight­ness and in­su­la­ti­on cer­tain­ly work: Mon­it­or­ing res­ults show that low cool­ing en­er­gy de­man­ds and high ther­mal com­fort are achie­ved in Pass­ive Hou­se build­ings. Ther­mal in­er­tia and ve­ry low cool­ing loads in Pass­ive Hou­ses al­low for sim­pli­fied, low-cost, ef­fi­cient cool­ing sys­tems. In hu­mid cli­ma­tes, the­se sys­tems al­so ha­ve to pro­vi­de ad­equa­te de­hu­mid­i­fic­a­ti­on. The pre­sent­a­ti­on will pro­vi­de sub­stan­ti­al evid­en­ce for the­se state­ments.

Pi­lot Pass­ive Hou­se in hot coun­tries - res­ults from mon­it­or­ing

  The feas­ib­il­ity of Pass­ive Hou­se build­ings in the Ve­ry Hot cli­ma­te was first­ly in­vest­ig­ated by the Pass­ive Hou­se In­sti­tu­te through re­search pro­jects de­al­ing with tran­si­ent sim­u­la­ti­ons on sam­ple build­ings and then de­mon­stra­ted with the de­sign and con­struc­ti­on of the pi­lot Pass­ive Hou­se in Du­bai in 2016. An im­port­ant fea­ture of this pro­ject was the mon­it­or­ing sys­tem, de­si­gned to track the ac­tu­al cli­ma­te da­ta, in­door qual­ity, en­er­gy con­sump­ti­on, ef­fect­ive­ness of the pho­to­vol­ta­ic field, and the elec­tric stor­age sys­tem. This pre­sent­a­ti­on shows res­ults from the mon­it­or­ing over the years 2017 and 2018. Ad­di­ti­on­al­ly, de­si­gned da­ta is com­pa­red against ac­tu­al meas­ure­ments as the chan­ces for im­pro­ve­ment in the de­sign of Pass­ive Hou­se in sim­il­ar cli­ma­tes are ex­ami­ned.
